Why We Love Giving Back at Kura

Kura is a company dedicated to its people however often when we see this statement, it is important to remember that it is not just our direct Kura people that we focus on, it’s also our wider community.

Here at Kura we believe that giving back is really important. This is why we have a dedicated group of volunteers on site who go above and beyond each year to raise money and awareness for some great causes. We call this Kura Involve.

When I was first asked to join Kura Involve I was a tad sceptical, mainly due to the fact that I was new to the company and didn’t really know anyone. Before now I had rarely taken part in any engagement activities in University or School, never mind to help plan them (unless it involved some sort of sport or social activity that is!) however once I found out a bit more about the purpose of the role, my mind was made up – I was in. I’ve always taken an interest in charity work ever since I was kid. I used to help my mum raise money for a local charity in Ayrshire called SANDS and it was something I really enjoyed.

So, fast forward to the present day and I still feel as fulfilled by charity work as I did when I was younger, and having been a part of the Engagement Committee for 2 years now, what a rewarding 2 years it has been.

Would you like to Volunteer?

In my opinion, once you have helped out for the first time you are hooked. This year I am taking part in a charity Skydive (feel free to donate if you are reading this and feeling generous…) and I look forward to seeing the difference that something as small as this can make. I was the first person to sign up, not simply because of the charitable aspect to be honest; it was actually a combination of everything; bridging the gap between departments, meeting new people and generally helping to make work a more engaging and sociable place to be.

It has been a great year for Involved.

This year we smashed our target by nearly £5,000 with over £18,000 raised. In total over the past two years alone we have raised over £30,000 for some amazing causes such as the British Heart Foundation, Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Beatson Cancer Charity, Alzheimer’s Society and CLAN.

I sometimes think that many businesses do not take charitable work seriously. Any business can promote some sort of “engagement” for their employees, even if it’s a few pints on a Friday (I kid!) but considering the needs of your employees and your commitment to the community is crucial. At Kura our Vision is to be Unrivalled in the Developing People, so Team Involved is a strong part of this. Our new target is £18,000, and we welcome new recruits to make this happen.

Give something back…
